Frequently Asked Questions
What is Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy?
PRYT is a proven method of setting the conditions that facilitate awareness and transformational change from within the client. These changes have the capacity to affect others around the Client, potentially reaching out to help heal the world, one little ripple at a time.
What can I expect in a Session?
Each session is tailored specifically to the individual Client receiving the session, in the moment. Generally a session will start with some breath and movement, exploration of comfort and learning edges, dropping-in to a deeper presence within the Client’s being, meditation, listening for insight, and reflection. The Client may identify a small action they would like to take with them.
Do I need to have experience with Yoga?
Individuals of any experience, expertise, age, physical conditions or restrictions, are encouraged to experience Somatic Yoga Therapy. Please let your Therapist know your concerns before the sessions begins. The sessions are tailored to the individual in the moment, with safety and ability in mind. The Client always has the option to modify in any way that works best for their body.
**NOTE: Sessions are individual, and intentionally one-on-one, or couples-based. Group classes are available as noted under Events, or by private reservation.
Will there be talking during the Session?
Therapeutic Dialog is common throughout the session. The Client is encouraged to communicate with in order to deepen the connection and level of awareness between Client and Therapist. However, the Client is not required to answer questions or do anything during the session.
Can PRYT help address specific concerns?
Yes and No. PRYT is a pro-symptom, non-prescriptive approach to Yoga Therapy. While some Yoga Therapies are focused more on symptom management, PRYT uses the body as a tool to focus on the whole being - physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Through this whole-system approach, profound healing on many levels can be achieved.
What should I have with me for a Session?
For all sessions: Please dress comfortably in clothes that will cover your body in any position (arms up, bent over, twist…). I will have all supports on-site, you can bring your own if you prefer.
For virtual sessions: your space should allow room for movement, free from distractions (family members, pets, electronics, etc…). Camera placement and lighting for viewing while standing and sitting is important. If available, please have have a non-slip yoga mat, set of blocks, long strap, cushions and blankets close by. Additionally, tissues, water, journal and writing utensil, and emergency contacts are good to have nearby.
What can be addressed during Sessions?
While not focused specifically on symptoms or diagnoses, the Client can explore their inner landscape to find things blocking the way of their own healing. They may find relief from Stress, Physical/Emotional Pain or Trauma, Substance Abuse, Anxiety, Depression or other challenges.
Does this replace traditional Therapy?
Traditional forms of psychotherapies and physiotherapies hold genuine value in helping Clients identify, cope with, and move beyond a vast array of challenges. Somatic Yoga Therapy can enhance these experiences by bringing the Client into their body to explore physical responses and patterns that may be hidden, but have profound effect once identified and released.
